On the night of March 25, 1971, the Pakistani army arrested Sheikh Mujib at his residence in Dhanmondi and sent him the next day to a western Pakistani prison.

Mujib was subjected to inhuman torture in the Pakistani prison where he was waiting for the execution of his death sentence handed down in a grotesque trial.

“I was a prisoner in the cell for convicts awaiting hanging. From the day I went to jail, I didn’t know if I should live or not. I was mentally ready to die. But I knew Bangladesh would be freed, ”Mujib said emotionally about his ordeal in Pakistani prison at a press conference in London.

Regarding the massacre of the Bengalis by the Pakistani army, Mujib said: “If Hitler could have been alive today, he would be ashamed.

Earlier on March 26, 1971, Mujib proclaimed the independence of Bangladesh and urged people from all walks of life to wholeheartedly participate in the country’s war for liberation.
